Site inspection and waste sampling conducted at Rumah Susun, Jakarta |
|
Last June 15, 2009, AsiaBIO and the Mercy Corps team conducted a site inspection at the Rumah Susun housing complex in Penjaringan area, one of the largest slum areas in Jakarta. The preliminary inspection was done in preparation for a planned community waste-to-energy facility that will generate electricity and fuel for cooking. It will be a communal biogas system (anaerobic digester) that will use household food waste and septage as main feedstock. Recently, a waste sampling was jointly conducted by AsiaBIO and Mercy Corps in the area.
On August 11, 2009, a follow-up site inspection was conducted by the AsiaBIO/PhilBIO engineering team represented by PhilBIO COO, Engineer Abet Pascua and Project Engineer Bert Abug. The technical visit was to determine the appropriate design of the biogas system that will be installed at the Rumah Susun Penjaringan area.
